Fresh and Fun!

This adorable couple had a lovely afternoon wedding at

St. Mary's Cathedral in Austin, Texas.

As you can see, this sweet photoshoot before their wedding

revealed such a fun palette of color using green and orange tones.

The only color in the church being the personal flowers

we had to make sure to have them POP! The bouquets did the trick.....

but in keeping with a lovely and classic finish to enjoy in their photos for years to come.

Deep In The Heart Of Texas

This country wedding was held outside Brenham, Texas close to a small town called Chappell Hill. It was a rather unusual venue, a wild game retreat! Our use of feathers and such was a nod to the local inhabitants. Sarah was a very sweet bride, and we gave her a rustic look to fit and communicate with the venue and it's surroundings. I loved her rich hued color palette. The mustards, plums, oranges, greens and fuschias really enhanced the peacock and pheasant feathers we added everywhere.

how lovely it would be to take a quick pic and share.

The palette of champagne, ivory and green translates as classic,

but the multiple textures give it the nice vintage look so many

Intimate Setting At Hoffman Haus

This "hands off" wedding took place in Fredericksburg, Texas.

I never met the bride, but she gave me a color scheme and just

said make the designs! Love it! Her coordinator/decorator

had great taste, the venue was minimally and tastefully

designed with the tables decorated using planks of wooden tree discs with white candles

in clear glass cylinders set on top. Each place setting

was adorned with biodegradable bamboo cutlery with a note about

it's earth friendly existence. The tablecloths were a lovely simple linen material with

hemstitched napkins to accent the total look. I loved the entire feel, it was seamless perfection

for the impeccable taste of the country Hoffman Haus setting in Fredericksburg, Texas.

"Down Home" Star Hill Ranch Style

Simple and country vintage is what this client wanted. There was a huge

wedding party, so we repurposed their bouquets as table centerpieces into

skinny cylinder vases with a gold rim. Brides on a budget and that have numerous tables

to decorate, this is a super helpful solution. The bride's main concern was

that everything fit into budget and if that meant that we picked a certain

type of flower to make that happen but without loosing the integrity

of the overall feel ..... she was a happy camper!

Whimsical Vintage Bridal Portrait Bouquet

This Houston bride was spectacular. She sought us out and even drove from

Houston just to meet with me at our studio near Austin, for her Houston

wedding. She also hired an AMAZING photographer from Los Angeles, Docuvitae

I had so much fun coming up with ideas to carry out her

inspiration pics and initial color scheme ideas. We had a

great time working together to see this to fruition, and she put

a good deal of professional trust in me to see her vision through.

Diamond Domain Bridal Soiree

We were asked by Kristi Treadwill of Buon Affaire Events to help her create a fun and sophisticated space at the first Diamond Domain Bridal Soiree. Kristi knows us quite well and really let us do whatever we wanted to. She chose a nice and simple silver pintuck linen and white fitted chair covers with silver pintuck sashes tied simply in the back with a obi loop. We embellished the obi loop with a tuft of grey toned feathers that were perfection. I chose purple toned flowers to go along with the silver for an "in fashion" color choice for the season. California meets Texas

I can't quite remember the connection to Texas this Californian couple had....but it didn't really matter because the bride in her boots says "Texan" all the way. This was a couple I never actually got to meet, as we did all our interviews via phone since they lived out of state. However everything was well communicated and easy going. The bride is actually a fabulous photographer and hired another photographer Leigh Miller Photography out of California to shoot her wedding. I was blown away by the depth and subject matter Leigh chose and included some non floral aspects to give you a well rounded feel for the emotional event. I especially love the bride's gown, the collared style of her dress was more than perfect for her look. Every aspect of the wedding meshed so lovely together. I share these photos with you in hopes you see the beauty my job offers as just a small detail in such a "big" event in a couples life.

"Lil Pumpkin"

Botanist + Baker = A Really Cool Couple

"Lil Pumpkin" refers to the bride's pet name that

her super sweet mother calls her by.....so we

put pumpkins all over the place to remind

the bride of one of her favorite things!

This vintage inspired wedding used one of a kind

fabulous pottery from a collection of the bride's mother....

no pressure Last Petal team...eeek!

However, these vases were the piece d' resistance for the

table decor...we coupled them with copper candlesticks for

another vintage touch.

Love the unique blend of textures and colors we used for

this wedding. Sometimes you have to go outside the comfort zone

of a two color design palette.

Love this wedding, super special!

Love this color combination! Pinky coral, orange and chartuese.

This is a bright color palette without being overwhelming and still

creates an elegant mood with the shapes chosen. There are green hydrangea, orange parrot tulips, pincushion protea, orange dendrobium mokara orchids, and curly willow to create some wispy texture dancing around the other components. Just say YES! to texture.

Autumn Splendor

The mornings are starting to get that slight

hint that cooler weather is around the corner.

Today being the "official" first day of Fall,

I thought I'd post an autumn wedding from last year.

I adore the Fall, and it's probably my

favorite time of year for flowers.

Spring is wonderful, but Fall flowers show

such a unique palette of colors and variations.

Everytime this season comes around,

we get giddy at the studio opening our

gorgeous packages of botanical goodies!

By coincidence, this day is also my 8th wedding

anniversary and reminds me of what an

awesome choice I made for having our wedding

specifically on the Autumn Solstice & The Harvest Moon.

Details make life so much more interesting.....

Opposites really do work sometimes!

This bride requested romantic, small and delicate for

her and bright colors to compliment the bridesmaids dresses.

The artist bride (turned florist after the wedding!)

loved color and the fuschia/purple and orange orchids looked

bold against the dark teal dresses. The bouquet I made

for the bride mimicked her intricate gown, using

queen anne's lace, little white feathers, stephanotis,

dendrobium orchids, lisianthus, and sweet peas.

Haute pink was the signature color with black

as an accent and we did the look

Yes...yes it's true...

florists always have flowers in their houses...or atleast this

floral designer does. Usually they are simple, even just one stem

that's about "to go" in the next few days and we enjoy just

that one moment of beauty it still has to offer.

Here's what's on my table right now. So pretty ....you really can't go

wrong with green and white. As I look in the picture, my house looks

like a jungle with greenery everywhere. I guess certain

days out of the year that is very true.

I love this space, refreshing and different! Plus, I took home several ideas

for my house with all their cool design displays. Love it!

This bride/groom were so sweet and easy going. They wanted a

vintage, clean look with modern aspects. Her bouquet was so fun,

in the picture displayed it's hard to see but I wired clusters of

buttons and used those within the bouquet and on the stem...super cute.

Jordan's Bridal Portraits

For some reason I thought of Jordan's bridal portraits today.

It's been over 4 years since we did these, however it's lovely

that they look timeless and even contemporary to today's work.

She was an amazing client to work with and using the color purple

that long ago was uncommon. Purple today is a very popular palette.

In this bouquet, I melded the yummy textures of the hydrangea,

stock, hanging amaranthus, burgundy dahlias, bullet allium, plum toned callas

and anything else deep toned I could get my hands on.

K&C Photography provided these images and they

turned out perfect. Pictures help retain the memories of all our

creative hard work....it's lovely to revisit old photos and see how you and

your trade have grown.

Tulips, Tulips, and more Tulips......

As we prepare for another all tulip wedding this weekend in Horseshoe Bay.

I'm reminded of another exclusively tulip (pretty much) wedding

at the sophisticated Shoreline Grill in downtown Austin last year around this time.

The bride and I sent many emails back and forth trying to find the

EXACT tulip variety she was envisioning. In the end I found

a color variety that she was amazed by on her wedding day....always

the perk to my job! Though, we never met face to face, our email

conversations solified the deal and she was overjoyed with our designs.

Wintery Bouquet

Messina Hof Baby Shower

This past weekend we designed decor for a baby shower that a close friend of mine was throwing. It's always awesome to have friends that will let you have free reign on design and you still get paid to do the job!! The theme was the mommy to be's bedding which showcased modern circles with a mommy and baby giraffe in chocolate browns, greens, yellows and robins egg blue. This is what we came up with..... The candles we made for the cocktail tables were hand beaded with buttons, pearls, copper wire and dried sage hydrangea florets set onto a base of fresh button mums. We carried the idea over to the buffet tables by creating hills of green button mums for the giraffes to graze upon. Adding in a modern floral touch of yellow daffodils sunken into our chunky square glass vases set onto chocolate brown bases. Baby showers are fun and creative.....we would love to do more!

Lemoncello Yellow

We love The Driskill and The Driskill loves us.

We do quite a few weddings at this beautiful,

historic venue and I really loved the way these

monochromatic yellows brightened the darker

wood interior. My client called me one

day and sounded like she was worried about what

she was going to tell me. When she said she wanted

to change her color scheme completely to monochromatic

yellow on the hints of my suggestion, I was thrilled!

She said that she wanted to do it all along but that

she was afraid it was too risky. I ask...does this look

risky? It was such a classic display in a cheerful

palette that everyone commented how beautiful the flowers looked.

We used all things yellow for this client.

Textural items blend well using many different types of flowers.

Orchids to unlikely carnations...it's how our designers

place them that makes all the visual difference.

Horseshoe Bay Bliss

Jennifer and Aaron's Wedding at The Yacht Club at Horseshoe Bay

was effortless, well except for the deluge of rain.

However, the bride and groom were nothing but understanding of mother nature's plan for their "outdoor" ceremony. Quick planning with Last Petal's help made the indoor ceremony feel like it's what we planned all along.

They both wanted the use of beautiful textures in a very natural

green and ivory color palette. The bride's favorite flowers is gypsophilia

(baby's breath) so we used it as the only floral adornment on the ceremony structure, and I have to say it looked perfect. We laid out a lovely extra wide

burlap aisle runner to hone in on the naturally elegant look.

Many moons ago, on a full moon, my hubbie and I got married in an urban setting downtown Houston, Texas. Since weddings are my current forte, I thought I would finally share something personal...my wedding. It was a lovely wedding. Great food, drink, and friends.

Typical wedding, it was not, which meant a success for John and I.

It was elegantly laidback with a jazzy bar feel at the reception.

We had wished it had lasted all night.....

So without further adieu.....some of my wedding pictures.

I was lucky enough to have my dress made, and this is my dressmaker (a friend) who helped me into it on the day of the wedding. So special....

My sweet and petite cluster of lily of the valley with a surprise piece of handmade jewelry from

my friend....what supreme excitement before walking down the aisle.

The jade leaf was for good luck.

Ahh, these floral panels. One of the items I made myself....as I couldn't

let all my friends have all the fun in Pat's studio. These turned out just

as I imagined in my head. Constrained garden with a minimalist approach.

My maids..... such sweet friends. I surprised them with simple clusters of all

white flowers....each carrying a different blossom that I thought matched their personalities and tastes.

I loved my cake....it was another surprise. I helped with a few

of the ceremony pieces, but then told all the florists who came in

for my wedding to help with the fleurs...surprise me!

Oh, my professor, Jim Johnson had so much fun with the cake.

If you notice there is copper tubing around the cake and he put

two little miniature apples going through the copper to represent B&G.

Mellow Yellow + Mercury Hall

Hello there floral lovers.....

Here's a wedding we did at Mercury Hall a few months

back. I came across some professional shots from

this wedding and thought sharing would be nice. We focused on yellow

flowers, white accents with greenery for a multi- textural aesthetic.

Greenery on the archway and in centerpieces was incorporated into the designs that our farm studio cultivated, so that was a nice horticultural contribution.

I love how yellow flowers just integrally make you happy, especially the

gerberas....gerberas just make me smile.

spend posting great new weddings. I came across some pictures I

took 2 years ago of the last wedding I designed before giving birth

6 days later to my baby Renzo. I love these bouquets and wanted

to share the great color palette!

Warm and Sunny Palette at UT Alumni Center

Revisiting a wedding from late June of 2008 at the UT Alumni Center. I believe it was warm for Marian's outdoor wedding, but it definitely wasn't as warm a year later...this past weekend! Our bride last weekend decided to have her previously scheduled outdoor wedding brought indoors.....and believe me her flowers wanted to thank here. It was just way too hot outdoors for flowers to really shine.

This bride enjoyed the bright and warm colors of orange, reds and yellows and definitely green tones! Another major component of the decor was texture coming through via fruit and vegetables. I think my favorite from this wedding were the orange dahlias that came in that week....and the Texas peaches!

Love in the Hillcountry: Hilary and Jace

This lovely event was so easily put together, mainly in part because of the bride's sheer ability to be completely laidback about the planning! Hilary and I never actually met in person, just via phone interviews and numerous emails! Actually, her stepfather (what an amazing stepfather) was my main contact person and boy was he on the ball! Love that! Hilary wanted something fun, creative, and definitely had to have peacock feathers! Keeping the integrity and beauty of Austin 71 we created very simple but visually elegant centerpieces.

A wedding at Balcones Springs Retreat

April 4, 2009

Oh, if we could work at this venue every week it would be such a carefree existence. Courtney and her staff are the most gracious and hospitable crew to work with. This is our second wedding out there and both experiences have been equally impressionable. The bride and family were at ease throughout the day under their care. I worked with Katherine and her mother on the fine details of the decor. Katherine wanted a casually elegant atmosphere with pale tones for the ceremony and brighter, fun tones for the evening reception. We used beautiful "in season" flowers like...sweet peas, hydrangea, antique green hydrangea, hot pink "Yves Piaget" David Austen garden roses, sweet smelling stock, freesia, cymbidium orchids, rannunculus (grown at our farm,organically), football mums, tuberose, pale blue tweedia and I'm sure one or too more gorgeous flowers! The bride was so easy to please and trusted our studio completely to create a complimentary feel to the laid back setting at Balcones.

Last Petal Floral Studio specializes in weddings and special events, but did you know we also will do single arrangements for that special occasion? We don't advertise, but do this mainly word of mouth. Feel free to call or email our studio if you'd like to order an arrangement!

I wanted to share a few photos of some daily arrangements we did for clients. One of these arrangements was actually ordered by a famous culinary guru for an Austinite. That one was especially fun because we harvested some culinary things out of the garden for the arrangement. We had lovely dill, blooming allium, and other herbs to give it that special touch! The sweetpeas from the taller arrangement were harvested here at the farm....I loved those because a few of the vines used actually had the pea pods on the vine! The last picture is one of yours truly harvesting "Eve's Necklance" blooming branches or more precisely called Sophora affinis in the plant world. This photo is from the middle of March, so if you have a special event next year that you want these amazing, white wisteria-like blooms for.... give us a ring! They bloom at the farm from late February to mid to late March.

Wedding in the Woodlands....., Texas that is.

Erin and her fiance were lovely to work with on designing their wedding decor. Though, the ringleader I was fortunate to communicate everything with was her lovely mother, Lauren. I had done Lauren's eldest daughter's wedding a few years back, so they called me up when Erin announced her engagement. It was a classic and vintage event, with both ceremony and reception at the Augusta Pines Golf Club in The Woodlands. Erin was very easy going and trusted her mother and I to come up with something elegant, classic, vintage, and flowing with the interior of the club. I used a very simple floral recipe of blue and antique green hydrangea, white dendrobium orchids, moss and beargrass (guilded with some gold paint). The only other flowers we used in the wedding were in the bride's bouquet and tossing bouquet. I loved her bouquet...it was super fluffy! I used white hydrangea, ivory spray roses, "Vendela" ivory roses, and then white football mums! Yes, mums....they were perfect! They are an "older-dated" flower...but I can visualize a comeback with girls who love peonies but do not have the peony budget. Thanks again to the Sullenberger family for letting us design another daughter's wedding....only one daughter left!!!!

Jill's Wedding At Lakeway

It's not everyday a client, from a few thousands of miles away, calls you up tells you they

want to have an all green/ivory color theme and have everything as "organic and playful" as possible. Oh, plus they end up giving you full creative license on the ideas and botanical selections.

Yes, I wasn't dreaming....I love my job!

The bride's tastes were spot on, and letting me come up with ideas that sounded crazy on paper but that didn't bother ....but excited her... well was perfectly satisfying for a designer. We used lots of produce, tons of awesome grasses & amazing peegee hydrangea I had flown in from a wonderful small farmer up north, many beautiful seasonal green toned flowers, as well as a host of other yummy succulents and greenery we grow here at our rural studio. It was my pleasure to make her and her fiance's day as special as I could and she was extremely happy with all that we surprised her for her big day! Thanks again Jill for trusting me completely!

There are those clients, that you just want to wrap up in your pocket and work for them always. Well, Mary Katherine is one of those. We did her son's highschool graduation party out in in the hillcountry last year and she called us to do another small event at her home a few months ago. I came over to her house the day before the event (as we only had a few days notice...which for the creative can be invigorating to come up with florals on the fly) and was BLOWN away by the absolute perfection and beauty of her home. It has been featured in a few national decor magazines like "Western Interiors" etc. Our arrangements turned out to be so in tune with her decor. She had a closet full of awesome vases and containers that we simply rumaged through, took back to the studio and designed with. She was able to keep all the designs and not have to go to the extra expense of really expensive containers (because she already had so many!) We did a few arrangements on site and she gave us free reign of the grounds for cutting. Outside was this beautiful hillside of large olive trees that I was salivating over to use, and they made just the perfect touch to a large vase arrangement in her main living space. This was just so much fun and to make a client so happy they give you great big hugs, let you tromp in their yard and go whisping around their house like you own the place.... is just an amazing client to have. We are SO looking forward to working with this wonderful family again. Below are some of the very amateur photos I had to take with my iphone. I forgot to charge the Canon's battery when I was onsite, but I wasn't leaving without a memento photo or two, or three.... However, they can give you a feel of the designs we went for. Enjoy! Samantha and Andy at Laguna Gloria

It was such a pleasure working with these two. The couple were the essense of ease and really let us create beautiful flowers with no restrictions. Their request was to have it bright and fun, in the elegant space of Laguna. We stuck with a color palette of oranges and red tones with chocolate brown as a background color. Here are the flowers we used with this in mind: "Vendela" ivory roses, Mokara tangerine toned orchids, White Japhet orchids, "Casablanca" white lilies, "Freedom" red roses, "Miracle" orange roses, white hydrangea, Ivory miniature callas, sunset protea, orange hybrid rannunculus, red anenomes and galax leaves. We also accented the designs with greenery cut on our farm of lovely cascading ligustrum greenery that has wonderful blueish black toned fat berries on it right now. It was the perfect touch for the intimate garden wedding. We enjoyed working with Barbara Hearne, the brilliant coordinator! Jenny's Bridal Portraits

I came across an old email from a past bride of mine, with some shared images from her portrait session with Brittanydawsonphotography.com . Her bouquet was so lovely and classic and fit her perfectly. It was a hand-tied bouquet consisting of all open white lisianthus blossoms. Fixing the stem of the bouquet with ivory satin ribbon with an overlay of lace from her dress with just a hint of stems at the base. As you can see she included her best friend, Nana to be part of the timeless photos and I can't imagine how even a non animal lover wouldn't think these photos to be completely heart warming. Enjoy! Denise and Randy - October Wedding

Since starting our new blog, I have wanted to share every one of our wonderfully delightful weddings we've had the pleasure to work on. Here is one of them from October 2007. Denise and Randy's wedding was quite charming. They uniquely had a guest count of around 10, maybe 12 if you count the B&G! Jamie Carpenter at [Clink] brought us together. It was a simple suggestion from the bride to have a bold statement of a hot pink petal aisle. Not a simple petal aisle you would think for a modest guest count, but a opulent statement that tickles the ends of your mouth to make you smile big! We created a festive mood in the couple's own backyard. Jamie placed black chairs for the ceremony so that the hot pink petal aisle to would pop! We strung white dendrobium orchids mixed with white fuji mums at different heights and length in the surrounding low lining trees to create a slight ethereal mood. The bride requested a bouquet that was very slim and small, so I created a cluster of white tulips with white miniature callas surrounding the edges with a trim on the stem of white ribbon with a black ribbon overlaid bound in the middle. We accented around the inside of the home with different species of white orchids blossoms. These subtles touches added for a sophisticated and chic family affair. Welcome to our new blog!

Well, this is a bit overdue. But, as they say, "better late than never". Thanks so much for coming to our new blog and I would like to start off with a thank you to Becky Brock and other members of AWEC who asked us to provide trendy floral inspirations for a luncheon. The luncheon was entitled, "Wedding Trends for 2009!" The fabulous luncheon was at held at Malaga's, in downtown Austin. We used bright and monochromatic yellow tones for the flowers with a backdrop of mainly black and white tones. Very chic and sophisticated!
